Postecoglou on march to Victory

Melbourne Victory have unveiled Brisbane Roar's two-time premiership-winning manager Ange Postecoglou as the club's new head coach at AAMI Park on Thursday.
Postecoglou, 46, resigned from his role as Brisbane coach on Tuesday, two days after guiding the club to their second successive A-League title.
Greek-born Postecoglou had been widely tipped to return to home town Melbourne on a permanent basis after spending the past three years juggling his time between Queensland and Victoria, where his family remain, but he said the main motivation for the move was a fresh challenge.
'The main lure is to move onto something new and test myself as a coach and obviously being in Melbourne it's a fantastic opportunity for me to come back home as well,' Postecoglou, who has signed a three-year-term, said.
'But the main lure was the challenge of coaching Melbourne Victory and hopefully bringing some success to the club.
'I've had success at two clubs (Brisbane and South Melbourne) and now this was another opportunity to be successful at a different club with different expectations.'
The Melbourne Victory coaching post has been vacant following the departure of caretaker Jim Magilton earlier this month, and Postecoglou said the offer was a unique opportunity for him to take on new challenges.
'You know it's a massive club, it's got massive expectations, it's got a massive fan base and that presents different challenges for me as a coach,' he said.
'As a coach you've got to be a little bit like a shark, you've got to keep moving, if you stop you're going to die.'
Northern Irishman Magilton filled the role between January 7 and April 2, after replacing the sacked Mehmet Durakovic.
Durakovic himself lasted just eight months after taking over from inaugural manager Ernie Merrick in June 2011.
Victory, widely regarded as the biggest club in the competition, won two A-League titles under Merrick, and lost the 2010 grand final to Sydney FC.
But despite the high-profile signing of Socceroo star Harry Kewell in August 2011, they struggled badly in the 2011/12 campaign, finishing a disappointing eighth in the standings.
Postecoglou will be charged with restoring the club to its former glory, and in the accomplished style Brisbane have been noted for during the past two campaigns, a challenge he felt was too tempting to turn down.
'The opportunity to turn the fortunes around is one of the enticements for me,' he said.
'But more than anything I'm driven by being part of successful organisations and hoping to build on that success and hopefully creating something special.'
Postecoglou dismissed suggestions there would be a bigger weight of expectation on his shoulders at one of the league's powerhouses, saying it would be like coaching any other A-League franchise.
'I said challenge, I didn't say big challenge, it's a different challenge, from my point of view it's no bigger or lesser than any other time I'm coaching,' he said.
'When you coach you understand that the job in itself is challenging, I think there are just a different set of circumstances here, they've (Victory) had a disappointing year and from a club perspective you don't want to have too many disappointing years.'
Postecoglou ended his time in Brisbane on a high when the Roar came from behind to defeat 10-man Perth Glory 2-1 on Sunday, bagging their second consecutive title after also defeating Central Coast Mariners in a penalty shootout in 2011.
A former Australia international defender, Postecoglou won National Soccer League titles as a player and coach with South Melbourne, and spent seven years in charge of Australia's Under-20 side.
