Greek government sources say two heavily armed British suspects have been arrested near the border with Turkey.
A high-ranking security official, speaking to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the suspects were Iraqi-born British subjects in their 20s.
The two were arrested on Saturday night by coastguards near the port of Alexandroupolis in the north-east. They were driving a trailer. A spokesman for the coastguard confirmed the arrests.
The suspects were carrying more than a dozen guns and well over 20,000 bullets, according to the security official. The two were not thought to be on any terrorist or criminal database.
Greek counterterrorism experts and the representatives of the national intelligence agency are headed to Alexandroupolis.
