Αρχικά το τραγούδι ήταν ορχηστρικό μέρος από την μουσική της ταινίας του 1959 "Honeymoon", γνωστή και ως "Luna de miel" ή "The Lovers of Teruel" (δεν πρέπει να συγχέεται με το ομώνυμο μπαλέτο του Μίκη του 1958).Έγινε τραγούδι για πρώτη φορά και τραγουδήθηκε από τον Marino Marini την ίδια χρονιά (1959).Η "ισπανόφωνη" εκδοχή του τραγουδιού "Luna de Miel" γνώρισε μεγάλη αποδοχή στην Λατινική Αμερική.Τα σκαθάρια το ηχογράφησαν το 1963.Στα Ελληνικά το γνωρίζουμε με στίχους του Γκάτσου...
