Ο Βασιλιάς των Μαορί της Νέας Ζηλανδίας αρνείται να δει τον πρίγκηπα της Αγγλίας

Ο Βασιλιάς των Ιθαγενών Μαορί της Νέας Ζηλανδίας ,Τουχε΄ί'τια (φωτογραφία) σνομπάρει τον πρίγκηπα Γουίλλιαμ του Βρεττανικού θρόνου και τη σύζυγό του Κέητ ,αρνούμενος να τους ιδεί κατα το προσεχές ταξίδι τους,επειδή ο χρόνος που του διαθέτουν είναι μόνο 90 λεπτά. Η είδηση κάνει απο χτες το γύρο του Κόσμου και εχει προκαλέσει αρκετές συζητήσεις .

Ο βασιλιάς των Μαορί, εξηγεί το Skynews, έχει τιμητικό αξίωμα από το οποί όμως δεν προκύπτουν πραγματικές εξουσίες. 

Η βασιλική πλευρά πρότεινε ο Γουίλιαμ και η Κέιτ να επισκεφθούν τον βασιλιά Tuheitia για 90 λεπτά, στον δικό του ιερό χώρο, το Turangawaewae Marae.
Όμως σύμφωνα με το πρωτόκολλο των Μαορί, σημαντικές τελετές καλωσορίσματος μπορούν να διαρκέσουν πολλές ώρες. 
Σε ανακοίνωσή του ο βασιλιάς Tuheitia τονίζει πως ένας αρχηγός των Μαορί επισήμανε πως η τελετουργία των Μαορί δεν είναι «κάποιο καρναβαλικό νούμερο που παρουσιάζεται όποτε κάποιος το ζητήσει». 
Σύμφωνα με τον Tuheitia, μόλις επτά λεπτά θα έμεναν για το βασιλικό ζευγάρι, ώστε να συναναστραφεί τον κόσμο στο Turangawaewae Marae μετά την ολοκλήρωση της τελετής υποδοχής. 
Η άρνησή του να συναντήσει το βασιλικό ζεύγος επικρίθηκε από τον πρωθυπουργό της Νέας Ζηλανδίας John Key που χαρακτήρισε την πρόταση για συνάντηση 90 λεπτών «γενναιόδωρη» με δεδομένο το φορτωμένο πρόγραμμα των γαλαζοαίματων. 
Δεν έχει υπάρξει μέχρι στιγμής άμεσο σχόλιο από το παλάτι, ωστόσο επισημάνθηκε πως το πρόγραμμα του ταξιδιού συμφωνήθηκε με την κυβέρνηση της Νέας Ζηλανδίας και πως πολλές εκδηλώσεις θα συνέβαλαν στην αναγνώριση της σημασίας της κουλτούρας των Μαορί. 

Ο Δούκας και η Δούκισσα του Κέιμπριτζ θα έχουν μαζί τους στο ταξίδι και τον 7 μηνών γιο τους πρίγκιπα Γεώργιο.

New Zealand’s Maori King Tuheitia has issued a scathing criticism of the organisers of April’s royal visit, saying faceless bureaucrats are undermining his position.

Prime minister John Key said King Tuheitia had turned down a visit from Prince William because the 90-minute time slot offered was too short.

On Tuesday, King Tuheitia’s office issued a statement confirming the royals would not meet, despite Prince William and his wife visiting the Waikato.

However, the statement was especially critical of the government-appointed committee overseeing the visit, which it said was not willing to negotiate about the arrangements.

“The king was never asked anything. He was simply told,” the statement said.

The government’s delegation of the organisation of such an important visit to “faceless bureaucrats” was attacked as a grave error of judgment, repeating history that had seen the king’s position continually diminished and undermined.

A personal letter explaining the king’s reason for declining the visit had been couriered to the royal couple several weeks ago.

Had this visit proceeded, it would have been the first visit by senior members of the Windsor dynasty to King Tuheitia since his coronation in 2006.

The statement said 60 to 90 minutes was not considered long enough to look after the royal couple and the Maori leaders who would gather to pay them homage.

“The king wanted to give his best to this couple to reflect their status. He was being prevented from doing that.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their son, Prince George, will visit Australia and New Zealand in April, spending nine days in New Zealand.
